Melania Trump Has a Message for the Media

by Daveda Gruber:

Our beautiful and gracious First Lady Melania Trump had a message for the press as she wrapped up her “Be Best” tour. Her message was short and sweet.

FLOTUS in her closing remarks told the media to just be better.

During a town hall style discussion in Las Vegas, Melania talked about the opioid epidemic, which has claimed nearly 48,000 American lives in 2017.

Melania was quite clear as she said she wished the media would spend as much time highlighting the heartbreaking crisis as it does “idle gossip or trivial stories.”

When news media asked the first lady what else the media could do, she had the answer. She stated that the epidemic should be leading the news.

She said, “I think it should be on every media and the front pages of the newspaper, and I’m sure a lot of people would follow and go home and talk with the children and educate them, so they are responsible adults and they show them how drugs can be dangerous.”

Melania also challenged the media to “devote as much time to the lives lost, and the potential lives that could be saved, by dedicating the same amount of coverage that you do to idle gossip or trivial stories.

She stated, “When we see breaking news on TV, or the front pages of newspapers — it is my hope that it can be about how many lives we were able to save through education and honest dialogue.”

Check out this video:

Melania even delved into her own personal life as she then explained how she teaches her own 12-year-old son, Barron, “how drugs are dangerous. It will mess up your head. It will mess up your body and nothing comes positive out of it.”

The Las Vegas crowd was composed of an audience of several hundred people. It included Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton, who was seated in the theater where Elvis Presley once performed at the Westgate hotel and casino.

Melania’s “Be Best” tour also included a focus on babies born dependent on opioids.

The back and forth in the discussion brought a lighter touch when Melania answered a question about what her family’s choice for a group meal might be and she answered “spaghetti.”

The personal questions did not stop there. She was asked how much cooking she does. She answered that she leaves that to the “professionals” at the White House. She added that there’s “really no time” for her to cook.

The First Lady tweeted about her tour:

God bless our First Lady, Melania Trump.

Ilhan Omar: Hurtful Words or Anti-Semitic?

by Daveda Gruber:

A delay looms over the consideration of a resolution condemning antisemitism over comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar D-Minn..

Democratic leaders will put forward a vote on the House floor Wednesday to denounce antisemitism. The text of the resolution and whether Omar would be mentioned by name were left hanging but the latest text being circulated in the House does not mention Omar.

The argumentative environment  could jeopardize bringing up the measure this week because there’s a risk it might not pass.

Over the weekend Omar held her ground and tweeted:

No one had demanded that Omar should have allegiance/pledge support to Israel but she tweeted that she would refuse to “have allegiance/pledge support” to Israel as a condition of serving in Congress.

The Freshman from Minnesota has only been in Congress since January. Yet, she has been the center of controversy over numerous remarks she’s made that have been labeled anti-Semitic, as you can see from her tweets.

Anti-Defamation League Chief Executive Jonathan Greenblatt said in a recent letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Omar’s suggestion that Jews have a divided loyalty between the U.S. and Israel is “a vile anti-Semitic slur that has been used to harass, marginalize and persecute the Jewish people for centuries.”

Greenblatt did not leave out but did condemned the attacks Omar has faced for her own Islamic faith. A resolution would “send the unambiguous message that the United States Congress is no place for hate.”

There are some lawmakers who are pushing for Omar to lose her role on a key House committee.

On Tuesday, House GOP Whip Steve Scalise tweeted:

On Tuesday, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized the planned resolution, saying other lawmakers weren’t reprimanded after controversial comments.
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted:

GOP leaders finally removed Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) from all committees for having promoted white nationalism and ¬supremacy, Democrats should insist on Omar’s expulsion from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The House Democratic leadership would like to treat the resolution as a “suspension” measure which means that the House can bring the plan to the floor quickly with limited debate. It would need a two-thirds vote to pass.

We all have our own opinions on this matter but I do see that even I got into a little twitter debate on the subject.

I responded to Jack Murphy’s tweet:

One Twitter user was not happy with my opinion. She and I tweeted back and forth:

I didn’t answer the last response to me; should I?

Sign, Sign Everywhere a Sign

by Daveda Gruber:

Residents and visitors to Hollywood California got a rather interesting view. A billboard was in clear sight on Friday morning. A group of Conservative street artists had put up their work of art.

A billboard, which just happened to be across the street from CNN, was taken over by the artists known as “The Fraction.”

“The Fraction” mocked CNN with their latest project that also made fun of  its president Jeff Zucker for its coverage, or lack thereof, of the summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This week’s summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un was actually the big news of the week.

The billboard must have been a sight to behold. I’m sure that Republican views must have caused laughter and agreement with the wording. On the other hand, Democrats may have thought it wasn’t so funny.

The billboard referred to CNN as “Communist News Network.” It also had the phrase “Keep Korea divided” with an asterisk that read “because OrangeManBad.”

The sign also featured an image of Jeff Zucker. The title given to the CNN president was “CEO, CNNPC,” a reference to the “non-playable character” meme which has depicted liberals as robotic.

Okay, I think that’s funny but I really don’t think of CNN as real new, in fact, I’ve called them “Fake News” for a very long time now.

Hollywood Reporter tweeted this:

An anonymous member of “The Faction” told The Hollywood Reporter, “When Trump speaks glowingly of Kim Jong Un it’s a tactic. Zucker and his journo-activists know this, but are more than willing to try to torpedo the summit — the future of the long-suffering North and South Korean people be damned.”

After seven hours of being seen, the sign was taken down and replaced with an advertisement for a marijuana dispensary.

Did you see either one of them? I didn’t see them in person but lyrics came into my mind when I saw the sign. The lyrics to the song say it all:

“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin’ out the scenery, breakin’ my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign?”

The two leaders at the Hanoi summit couldn’t agree on the terms of an agreement. The Trump and Kim summit ended earlier than expected.

On Wednesday CNN gave practically no coverage to the summit. They instead kept the spotlight on the turbulent congressional testimony of former Trump attorney and “fixer” Michael Cohen.

While the congressional hearing was interesting, it didn’t compare to the Summit.

Trump Puts a Damper on Cohen’s Book Manuscript

by Daveda Gruber:

On Friday President Trump sought to discredit his onetime lawyer, Michael Cohen, by tweeting some of his thoughts on a book deal that Cohen was seeking.

The book deal that has been reportedly proposed paints Trump in a very different light that what was described by Cohen while he testified to Congress this week.

Cohen testified before a Congressional committee for three days in both public and private hearings on Capitol Hill.

Cohen was shopping the book to publishers weeks before the FBI raid on his office. It was reported that Cohen promised chapters would focus on first lady Melania Trump and Trump’s children, as well as the “unfortunate saga” of Stormy Daniels.

Trump’s tweets reflected his feeling on the matter:

The now-disbarred attorney gave disdainful testimony about Trump before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday. Cohen out rightly called Trump a “racist,” a “conman” and “a cheat.”

Cohen’s testimony came after he pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about a Trump real estate project in Russia as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates.

Cohen has pleaded guilty to five counts of tax evasion, one count of making false statements to a financial institution, one count of willfully causing an unlawful corporate contribution, and one count of making an excessive campaign contribution.

Now the president and his Republican allies have aggressively sought to discredit the former Trump loyalist.

On Thursday, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) wrote to Attorney General William P. Barr, asking him to investigate whether Cohen had perjured himself this week when he insisted during his testimony that he had not wanted a job in the Trump administration. Cohen said that he had been content to serve as Trump’s personal lawyer.

On Friday Republicans seized a video clip that has recently resurfaced from a November 2016 appearance by Cohen on CNN.

During the interview, Cohen is pressed by CNN’s Chris Cuomo about whether he would move from New York to Washington with Trump.

When asked if there was a chance Trump would ask him to take a job on either “the political side” or the “governmental side,” Cohen says, “I certainly hope so.” Asked if he’d go to Washington, Cohen says, “One hundred percent.”

During Wednesday’s congressional testimony, Cohen told lawmakers he was “extremely proud” to be the personal attorney for Trump as he became president.

But during his testimony Cohen said, “I did not want to go to the White House. I was offered jobs.”

Alleged contradictions seem to be surfacing from every which way. Cohen has promised to return to Capitol Hill and testify on March 6, 2019.

Cohen’s lawyer is Lanny Davis who is a longtime Clinton ally. From 1996 to 1998, he served as a special counsel to former President Bill Clinton. That fact alone makes me think that there is something rather fishy going on.

Trump said prosecutors should start looking at Democrats “where real crimes were committed.”

I agree with that 100 percent. As a Republican, I’ve been waiting for the real criminals to be arrested for what feels like a very long time.

Acosta Caught Up in Yet Another Lie

by Daveda Gruber:

Were Jim Acosta’s feelings hurt? On Thursday President Trump didn’t call on the CNN reporter in a news conference after the abrupt end to the Hanoi summit between the U.S. and North Korea.

After the news conference Acosta claimed that Trump may have avoided  White House press corps journalists. Why, you ask? Well, Acosta believes or appeared to know the answer. He made an assumption that he and other White House press corps journalists were not called on in an effort to dodge questions about Michael Cohen.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, testified Wednesday on the Capitol Hill.

Acosta said, “First of all, we have to point out the obvious, which is the president steered clear largely during this news conference of the White House press corps and instead selected journalists at random from the other side of the room, where foreign journalists were seated.”

Acosta apparently forgot to mention that Trump called on at least two journalists from the White House press corps; just not Acosta. The first journalist to be called on by Trump was CBS’s Major Garrett. Also, ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, who questioned Trump on Cohen’s testimony. So, did Acosta Lie? You tell me.

The air travel distance is equal to 8,584 miles. The air travel shortest distance between United States and Vietnam is 13,814 km or 8,584 miles. If you travel with an airplane (which has average speed of 560 miles) from United States to Vietnam, It takes 15.33 hours to arrive. That’s a long flight from any airport in the U.S.. It bewilders me why a journalist who traveled that distance to cover a summit, would waste a question on  asking about a completely different subject than the one at hand.

Trump had an answer for the Cohen question, which occurred in Washington, more than 13,000 miles from Hanoi, and said, “[Michael Cohen] lied a lot. But it was very interesting because he didn’t lie about one thing, he said, ‘no collusion with the Russian hoax.’”

Other U.S.-based outlets that also questioned Trump included the New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR, and Bloomberg.

Acosta must have felt really scorned because he added that Trump “was calling on reporters from Russian state media, Chinese state media and Sean Hannity from Fox.” Acosta added that it “was by design because he didn’t want to really answer questions about Michael Cohen.”

The CNN star reporter then took to Twitter and tweeted:

It appears the Acosta may be jealous of Sean Hannity, who did get a question. I tweeted back to Acosta and told him what was on my mind:

Acosta later acknowledged that Trump did answer a question on Cohen, though he did observe that Trump called the testimony yesterday a “fake hearing.”

I must reiterate that questions in Hanoi related to the summit would have been more appropriate.

Are Babies and Children the Enemy of Democrats?

by Daveda Gruber:

Penny Nance, the leader of a women’s group, Concerned Women for America, came down hard on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez D-N.Y. and other Democrats.

The CEO was reported to have said, “What’s is old is new again. AOC questioning if it is still okay to have children because of climate change is the same apoplectic anti-child rhetoric we’ve heard before.”

Nance also reportedly said,  “We heard about this in the late 1960s with zero population growth crowd who warned that we needed to limit our families or doomsday would come. Now, we worry about replacement rates.”

In an Instagram Live stream last weekend, Ocasio-Cortez spoke about climate change and the ever mounting student loans. She then told her 2.5 million followers these issues have led “young people” to question whether or not they should bring more children into the world.

Ocasio-Cortez said, “Our planet is going to face disaster if we don’t turn this ship around. And so it’s basically like, there is a scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult and it does lead, I think young people, to have a legitimate question. You know, should—is it okay to still have children?”

She went on to say, “Not just financially because people are graduating with 20, 30, 100 thousand dollars of student loan debt so they can’t even afford to have kids in the house, but there’s also just this basic moral question, like, what do we do?”

Ocasio-Cortez continued, “And even if you don’t have kids, there are still children here in the world and we have a moral obligation to them to leave a better world to them.”

A Twitter user tweeted this out:

Conservatives, needless to say, were rather critical of Ocasio-Cortez’s comments.

Nance, while being upset over what Ocasio-Cortez said, also called out Senate Democrats linked them to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez for voting down a bill Monday that would have protected infants that survived abortions.

Nance told reporters, “The common thread in all of this is that the Left is rarely in favor of having babies and certainly never in favor of large families. In fact, in many cases babies are considered the enemy. Sadly, it was this belief system on full display yesterday when 44 Democratic Senators voted against protecting survivors of abortion.”

The bill in question would have protected infants that survived failed abortions. It would have also sent doctors who didn’t try to save these babies to prison.

So, even if a baby survives an abortion, it is still maintained that the child has no rights to have his or her life saved under the law as it stands.

President Trump and Chairman Kim in Vietnam Ready for Summit

by Daveda Gruber:

When we think of Vietnam, the obvious meets the memory to those of us old enough. We remember a war that left many dead. In fact, 58,220 U.S. military fatal casualties are recorded of the Vietnam War.

Younger people may see the Vietnamese people as nail techs who we see in the salons where we get manicures and pedicures.

Well, things have certainly changed.

Chairman Kim Jong Un arrived in Vietnam by armored train a few hours before President Trump arrived by plane.

Kim arrived at Vietnam’s Dong Dang railway station on the China-Vietnam border on Tuesday where he later travelled by armed car to Hanoi.

Trump disembarked from Air Force One at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi in the early morning hours of Feb 26, 2019. Both leaders were welcomed by spectators and Vietnam officials.

The two leaders are expected to discuss denuclearization during the summit.

“Security will be at the maximum level,” Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung told reporters.

Vietnam has become a booming economy and the country’s leaders are eager to show off the huge economic and development improvements since the destruction of the Vietnam War.

If Chairman Kim wants North Korea to become a thriving nation, Kim will have to weigh the importance of the nuclear power his country now has.

This summit will be an important one but we must keep in mind that total denuclearization is not easily attained. Right now Kim is hanging on to what he believes is keeping him in power and protecting his stature in the rogue nation.

Hopefully summits with both leaders will build a bonding trust. Kim cannot avoid seeing how Hanoi has flourished and has manufacturing bringing in economic strength.

Vietnam may be the fastest-growing of the world’s economies, with a potential annual GDP growth rate of about 5.1%, which would make its economy the 20th-largest in the world by 2050.

Trump has repeatedly hailed his meeting with Kim in Singapore last June as a success. Trump did accomplish the stopping of weapons being launched by North Korea although it has been said that there were few concrete outcomes from the summit.

Anti-Abortion Movie to Hit Screens with “R” Rating

by Daveda Gruber:

What turns a former Planned Parenthood clinical director into a pro-life activist? A new controversial film is coming to theaters soon and will tell the story.

Abby Johnson’s story is the subject of a new controversial film. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) gave Pure Flix’s anti-abortion film “Unplanned” an R rating.

Thirty-eight year old Johnson told FOX News in a written statement, “We are pushing the boundaries of what has never been before on such a wide scale by showing America exactly what abortion is — and abortion is disturbing. It’s violent.”

Johnson went on to say, “In my opinion, one of the most impactful films of our time is ‘The Passion of the Christ.’ It was rated R. So I feel like ‘Unplanned’ is in good company. An R rating from the MPAA isn’t going to slow this movie down. I believe people are ready for the truth.”

Pure Flix is the production and distribution company behind the film. It is a Christian movie studio that produces, distributes, and acquires “Christ centered movies,” according to its mission statement.

The plan is for “Unplanned” to be released on March 29. The movie is a feature-length production and is set to be released on 800 screens.

Michael Scott, president of Pure Flix said, “This is why Pure Flix exists: to give a platform to these types of movies. We’re proud to be associated with this film and we are confident that our fans will not stay away because of the opinions of reviewers and listen to those in the faith community who have seen the film and agree with us. In this case, R stands for recommended.”

Mike Lindell, an investor in “Unplanned” dismissed the ‘R’ rating by the MPAA which is the Motion Picture Association of America.

The co-writers and co-directors of the film, Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman said, “We consider the MPAA’s current standards to be deeply flawed, insofar as they allow scenes of remarkably graphic sex, violence, degradation, murder and mayhem to have a PG-13 rating, whereas our film, highlighting the grave dangers of abortion in a straightforward manner, is considered dangerous for the American people to view.”

Lindell said, “Unplanned” tells the true story of Abby Johnson, who previously worked at Planned Parenthood as a clinic director, but resigned in 2009 and became a pro-life activist. (Pure Flix)

Lindell feels that “the fix is in. Whoever rated this movie must not be watching TV or videos on social media! I have a cameo in this movie and do not appreciate the R-rating. I got involved to get a message out to everyone with this true story. What a shame that some might be blocked by an R-rating from getting the truth. I hope millions of Americans will ignore this attempt at moviegoer suppression and flood the box office on opening day.”

MPAA told Pure Flix the most problematic scene of “Unplanned” featured a doctor gazing at a computer screen that shows the image of a fetus as the abortion is completed. Dr. Anthony Levatino, who was portrayed in the scene, said the depiction is accurate.

Ken Rather, executive VP of distribution for Pure Flix said, “A 15 year-old-girl can get an abortion without her parent’s permission but she can’t see this movie without adult supervision? That’s sad.”

Levatino, who performed about 1,200 abortions over the years said, “The portrayal of a live, moving fetus disappearing is very accurate. You’re watching an abortion. It’s an accurate view of what’s happening. It’s disturbing if you recognize it’s a human life.”

Solomon claimed, “We have three scenes in the film which directly address abortion, and the MPAA objected to all three. They specifically made mention of objection to grainy, black and white sonogram images that were part of one of the scenes. It was clear that any meaningful treatment of the issue was going to be objectionable.”

I’m not the person rating the film but whatever the rating, this film is important for people to see. Maybe it can enlighten some who look at abortion as a normal part of life.

Just maybe the movie can change the mind of someone who thinks they should have an abortion. Furthermore, maybe the film can save the lives of innocent babies, through no fault of their own, are not wanted.

Five House Democrats took $60,000 Trip to Beyoncé Concert in South Africa

by Daveda Gruber:

Democrats like paid vacations. We saw this when, in January, a group of Congressional Democrats was criticized for flying to Puerto Rico  for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC gathering in San Juan. The trip included a special performance of the Broadway play “Hamilton.”

This was not the only vacation that they didn’t have to paid for.

According to congressional disclosure records, five members of the Congressional Black Caucus took a $60,000 trip to see Beyoncé and her husband, JAY-Z at a live performances in Johannesburg, South Africa late last year.

The event, which honored the 100th anniversary of the birth of late South African leader Nelson Mandela also featured performances and appearances from Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin, Kacey Musgraves, Usher, Oprah and “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

The lawmakers who went on the taxpayer funded trip were:

U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York

U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee of California

U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell of Alabama

U.S. Rep.Hank Johnson of Georgia

The Democrats attended the “Global Citizen Mandela 100” concert from Dec. 1-3 to celebrate the centenary birth of the late Nelson Mandela and raise awareness of global poverty.

The lawmakers appeared in a photo that the Rev. Al Sharpton, who also attended the event, posted on his Twitter page:

The Washington Examiner reported that the trip was paid for by Global Citizen, a nonprofit that lobbies for anti-poverty programs around the world. There were over 90,000 fans in attendance.
The group said the presence of members of Congress at the concert would “showcase America’s ongoing commitment [to] health equality and global human rights.”

It was reported that Rep. Meeks said, “In the spirit of Nelson Mandela, we pledge to keep working with our colleagues in Congress, across the country and across the aisle, to make sure that every child in Africa and at home has the opportunity to thrive and grow in a safe and prosperous world.”

When asked how the trip was related to his congressional duties Meeks said, “As a Sr. member of the Foreign Affairs Comm[ittee] who understands the importance of both multilateral & bilateral relations on trade & foreign policy, developing that relationship is crucial.”

A watchdog group, The National Legal and Policy Center, called the trip a “mockery.”

Tom Anderson, president of the NLPC’s Government Integrity Project, said, “These members of Congress that were given an all-expense paid vacation to party with Oprah, Jay Z, and Beyoncé in South Africa are claiming with a straight face this was needed to help poor children around the world live better lives. This was in fact, a mockery of House ethics rules on gifts and travel, the truly poor, and all Americans that expect members of Congress to live not only by the letter of the law but by the spirit and intentions of the rules of the House of Representatives.”

The nature of the Global Citizen Festival itself are adamant that those who earned tickets via their activism deserve a unique reward and that reward is being the only group of people who get to watch the performance in full.

A representative for Rep. Sewell said her travel “was pre-approved by the House Ethics Committee and was not paid for at taxpayer expense.”

The representative also said, “Rep. Sewell and several other members attended the Global Citizen Mandela 100 Festival, a platform for world leaders to speak out against racial injustice and inequity, and voice their support for international assistance for underprivileged populations.”

According to the travel itinerary, the congressional members were in South Africa for one full day and also used two partial days for travel.
Here are some portions of the concert the Democrats enjoyed:

New England Patriots’ Owner Charged in Florida Sex Spa Scandal

by Daveda Gruber:

There are those who like the New England Patriots and those who don’t like them for one reason or another. The owner of the team has just given some another reason to not cheer on the 2019 Super Bowl champs next season.

On Friday New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution at a Florida spa.

The charges are not being taken lightly because police are saying there is video evidence.

Kraft, 77, is accused of paying for sexual acts at Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter which is located about 90 miles north of Miami.

Kraft’s name was among more than a dozen who were charged along with Kraft.

Police said they have video of Kraft and others receiving the sexual acts. Also, Kraft participated in prostitution in Florida on two separate occasions.

After a months-long investigation, the spa was allegedly shut down. The investigation revealed women were participating in “sexual servitude.”

There were nine other spas in Orlando, Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast that had also been shut down as part of the investigation.

Police said the suspects paid rates that were between $59 and $79 for services.

Authorities said that they handed the case over to the state’s attorney’s office. Authorities also said that they were working on an active warrant for Kraft’s arrest.

A Patriots’ spokesperson said in a statement, “We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity. Because it is a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further.”

The NFL had this to say, “The NFL is aware of the ongoing law enforcement matter and will continue to monitor developments.”

Kraft is reported to be worth $6 billion.

Kraft founded International Forest Products in 1972. He helped the company become one of the top importer/exporters by the late 90s.

Kraft also invested in New England Television Corp. in 1982 and later sold his shares for about $25 million.

Kraft married his wife, Myra Nathalie Hiatt, in 1963. They had four children, all sons and multiple grandchildren together. She died of ovarian cancer in July 2011.

He had reportedly been dating 39-year-old actress Ricki Noel Lander around a year after the death of his wife. The woman in question gave birth to a child in 2017. There were numerous speculations over whether Kraft was the father of the child. Kraft had denied the allegations that the child was his.

The New England Patriots won their sixth Super Bowl championship this year and Kraft was present to celebrate.

Kraft owns a home in Palm Beach and frequently spends time in Florida.
